For he was so sick that he was on the point of dying, but God took pity on him, and not only on him but on me too, to keep me from having one sorrow after another.

Having heard, they began to leave one by one, starting with the eldest, until only Jesus was left with the woman. He straightened up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?" Now as a great crowd was coming together and people were coming to Him from one town after another, He said by way of a story: "A sower went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some of the seed fell along the path, and were trodden down, and the wild birds ate them up. Another portion of them fell upon the rock, and as soon as they sprang up, they withered, because they had no moisture. Still another portion fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up with them and choked them out. And another portion fell in rich soil and grew and yielded a crop of a hundredfold." As He said this, He exclaimed, "Let him who has ears to hear with, listen!" His disciples were asking Him what this story meant. So He said, "You are granted the privilege of knowing the secrets of the kingdom of God, but to others they are told in stories, so that they may look and not see, may hear and not understand. This is what the story means: The seed is God's message.

Then He went into Jericho and was passing through it. Here there was a man named Zaccheus, who was tax-commissioner of the district, and he was a rich man too. Now he was trying to see Jesus to find out who He was, but he could not because of the crowd, as he was so small in stature.read more.
So he ran on ahead and climbed up in a mulberry tree, just to get a glimpse of Him, for Jesus was coming through on that street. And as Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, "Zaccheus, come down quickly! for today I must stop at your house." So in haste he came down, and with gladness welcomed Him. And when they all saw it, they began to grumble and say, "He has gone in to lodge with a notorious sinner!" Then Zaccheus got up and said to the Lord, "Listen, Lord! I now give to the poor half of my property, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay him back four times as much." Then Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this home, for he too is a real descendant of Abraham. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the people that are lost."

Now one of the Pharisees invited Him to take dinner with him. So He came to the Pharisee's house and took His place at the table. There was a woman in the town who was a social outcast, and when she learned that He was taking dinner at the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster bottle of perfume and took her stand behind Him at His feet, continually weeping. Then she began to wet His feet with her tears, but she continued to wipe them off with the hair of her head, and she kept right on kissing His feet with affection and anointing them with the perfume.read more.
So when the Pharisee who invited Him saw it, he said to himself, "If He were really a prophet, He would know who and of what character the woman is who is clinging to Him -- that she is a social outcast." Then Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." "Teacher," said he, "go on and say it." "Two men were in debt to a money-lender. One owed him a hundred dollars, the other ten. Since they could not pay him, he graciously canceled the debts for both of them. Now which one of them will love him more?" Simon answered, "The one, I suppose, for whom he canceled most." Then He said, "You are correct in your judgment." And turning face to face with the woman He said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came to your house; you did not give me any water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but she, from the moment I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet with affection. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with perfume. Therefore, I tell you, her sins, as many as they are, are forgiven, for she has loved me so much. But the one who has little to be forgiven loves me little." And He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven!" The men at the table began to say to themselves, "Who is this man, who even forgives sins?" But He said to the woman, "It is your faith that has saved you; go on in peace."

As He was approaching Jericho, a blind man chanced to be sitting by the roadside begging. As he heard a crowd going by, he asked what it meant. They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was coming by.read more.
Then he cried out, "Jesus, you Son of David, do pity me!" But those who were marching in front reproved him and told him to keep quiet, but he cried out all the louder, "O Son of David, do pity me!" Then Jesus stopped and ordered him to be brought to Him. And when he approached Jesus, He said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" He answered, "Lord, I want to see again!" Then Jesus said to him, "See again! Your faith has cured you." So at once he saw again, and began to follow Him, giving thanks to God. And all the people saw it and gave praise to God.

Soon afterwards He chanced to go to a town called Nain, and His disciples and a great throng of people were going along with Him. As He approached the gate of the town, look, there was being carried out a dead man, his mother's only son, and she was a widow! A considerable crowd of townspeople were with her. Now when the Lord saw her, His heart was moved with pity for her, and so He said to her, "Stop weeping."read more.
Then He went up and touched the hearse and the bearers stopped; and He said, "Young man, I tell you, arise." Then the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

In the days when Herod was king of Judea, there was a priest whose name was Zechariah, who belonged to the division of Abijah. His wife was also a descendant of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. Now they were both upright in the sight of God, walking without reproach in all the Lord's commands and requirements. And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both of them were far advanced in years.read more.
Once when he was acting as priest before God, when his division was on duty, it fell to his lot, in accordance with the priests' customs, to go into the sanctuary of the Lord to burn the incense, while all the throng of people were praying outside at the hour of the incense burning. In the meantime, an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was agitated, even overwhelmed with fear. But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you must name him John. This will bring you gladness and delight, and many will rejoice over his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He must drink no wine nor strong drink, and so he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his birth. And he will turn many of Israel's descendants to the Lord their God. He will go before Him in the spirit and the power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the upright, to make ready for the Lord a people perfectly prepared."

Yet, mercy was shown me for the very purpose that in my case as the foremost of sinners Jesus might display His perfect patience, to make me an example to those who in the future might believe on Him to obtain eternal life.
