But the people were very thirsty there for water, and they murmured against Moses and said, "Why in the world did you bring us up out of Egypt -- to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?"
And all the Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had perished in this wilderness!
But on the next day the whole community of Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron, saying, "You have killed the Lord's people!"
and in the morning you will see the glory of the Lord, because he has heard your murmurings against the Lord. As for us, what are we, that you should murmur against us?"
Moses said, "You will know this when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread in the morning to satisfy you, because the Lord has heard your murmurings that you are murmuring against him. As for us, what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the Lord."
Therefore you and all your company have assembled together against the Lord! And Aaron -- what is he that you murmur against him?"
And the staff of the man whom I choose will blossom; so I will rid myself of the complaints of the Israelites, which they murmur against you."
But the Pharisees and the experts in the law were complaining, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."
And when the people saw it, they all complained, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner."
Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus began complaining about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven,"
There was a lot of grumbling about him among the crowds. Some were saying, "He is a good man," but others, "He deceives the common people."
Now in those days, when the disciples were growing in number, a complaint arose on the part of the Greek-speaking Jews against the native Hebraic Jews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
But the Pharisees and their experts in the law complained to his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"
