And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to converse with him. And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. And the men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had wrought folly in Israel in laying with Jacob's daughter, which thing ought not to be done. And Hamor conversed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter. I pray you, give her to him to wife.
Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away. Neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have laid wait at my neighbor's door,
But I say to you, that every man who looks on a woman to crave her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
And it shall be to you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of LORD, and do them, and that ye not follow after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to play the harlot,
O LORD, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart to thee.
whom I, even I, shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger. My heart is consumed within me.
My days are past. my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery. If riches increase, set not your heart [on it].
And do not seek what ye may eat, and what ye may drink, and do not be unsettled.
