Then they spit in his face, and struck him with their fists, and some struck him with the palms of their hands,
He having said these things, one of the officers who stood by gave Jesus a blow, saying, Do you answer the chief priest thus?
and making a crown of thorns they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they knelt before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
They answered and said to him, If he was not a criminal we should not have delivered him up to you.
And when they had mocked him, they took the cloak off from him, and put on him his own clothes, and led him away to crucify him.
