When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained;

And Herod said, "John I have beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?" So he sought to see him.
Then they cast him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. And as they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prison both men and women,
This he said to show by what death he would glorify God. And after this he said to him, "Follow me."
