And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!" And Jesus said to him, "Do you see all these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down."

Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?

Have you not read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone;

He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which has become the chief cornerstone.

To you therefore who believe, this is precious, but for those who do not believe, "The very stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,"

As you come to him, the living Stone rejected by men but chosen and precious in the sight of God you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in scripture: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame."
