So Peter went out and began to follow him, not realizing that what was being done by the angel was real; he thought he was seeing a vision. Around midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly, there was an earthquake so violent that the foundations of the prison were shaken. All the doors immediately flew open, and everyone's chains were unfastened.
