On the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and said, "Where do you want us to make preparation for you eat the Passover?" "Go into the city," he answered, "to a certain man, and tell him. "'The Teacher says. "My time is near. I am going to keep the Passover at your house, with my disciples."'" The disciples did as Jesus told them, and made ready the Passover.

It was Preparation Day, so in order to prevent the bodies' hanging on the cross during the Sabbath (for the Sabbath was a great day) the Jews begged Pilate to have the legs broken, and the bodies taken away.

Here, because of its being Preparation Day, and as the tomb was near by, they placed Jesus.
