But the earth helped the woman, for it opened its mouth and swallowed the river which the dragon made to spout from his mouth. So the dragon was enraged against the woman, and he went off to make war with the rest of her descendants, who continue to keep God's commands and to bear testimony to Jesus.
It was the day of Preparation for the Passover, and it was about noon. Then Pilate said to the Jews, "There is your king!" But they shouted, "Kill Him! Kill Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Must I crucify your king?" The high priests answered, "We have no king but the emperor!"
But just as then the child born in the ordinary course of nature persecuted the one born by the power of the Spirit, so it is today.
