And the fruit of your souls coveting departed from you, and all dainty things and sumptuous things perished from you, and in nowise shall men find them any more. And every ship-master, and every one sailing to any place, and mariners, and as many as do business at sea, stood afar off; and they cried out, when beholding the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What city is like the great city?' And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, wherein all who have ships in the sea became rich by reason of her costliness! because in one hour she was made desolate.

And oft-times it cast him both into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but, if Thou canst do anything, having compassion on us, help us!"

and they lifted up their voice, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!"

Because, as the sufferings of Christ abound toward us, so through Christ our consolation also abounds.

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall in with manifold temptations; knowing that the proving of your faith establishes patience.

but, in so far as ye share in Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of His glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy.
