For they did not understand concerning the loaves, for their heart was hardened.

For the scripture says to Pharaoh, For this very thing have I raised you up, that I may show forth my power in you, and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth. Then therefore he has mercy on whom he will, and whom he will he hardens.

harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness,
