Speak to the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes on the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribin of blue:
Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, with which thou coverest thyself.
(And behold, a woman who was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment.
Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were restored to health.

But all their works they do to be seen by men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called by men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
And he said to them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the market-places, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:
Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen by them: otherwise ye have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Therefore, when thou doest thy alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:read more.
That thy alms may be in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, himself will reward thee openly. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues, and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.
