How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?
He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood.
who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
And they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues,
"Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts,
Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
So he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noted how they chose the places of honor, saying to them: "When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest one more distinguished than you be invited by him; and he who invited you both will come and say to you, 'Give place to this man,' and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place.read more.
But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, 'Friend, go up higher.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you.
to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life;
for we have regard for what is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
So also Christ did not exalt himself to become a high priest, but it was he who said to him, "You are my son, today I have begotten you";
Therefore I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.
"Thus, when you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.
