Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And he fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward he was hungry.

And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him.

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. In those days he ate nothing, and when they had ended, he was hungry.

Take care, brethren, lest there be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. For we have come to share in Christ if we hold our first confidence firm to the end, while it is said, "Today, if you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion." Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?

This man led them out, performing wonders and signs in the land of Egypt and in the Red Sea and in the wilderness for forty years.

For about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.

At this remark Moses fled, and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons. "After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush.

Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
