And he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works."
Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience.

On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight.

The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him.
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. In those days he ate nothing, and when they had ended, he was hungry.
Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" When some of those standing there heard this, they said, "This man is calling Elijah."read more.
Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with wine vinegar and put it on a reed, and offered it to him to drink. The rest said, "Let him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save him." And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" for the sun was darkened; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." And having said this, he breathed his last. Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he praised God, and said, "Certainly this was a righteous man!"
After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst." Now a vessel full of wine vinegar was sitting there; so they filled a sponge with the vinegar, put it on hyssop, and put it to his mouth. So when Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished!" And he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.
While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how he told you while he was still in Galilee,
Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven.
And after he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.read more.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
