13 Bible Verses about Who Is John The Baptist?

In those days John the Baptist came on the scene, preaching in the desert of Judaea,

Now here is John's testimony. When the Jews of Jerusalem despatched priests and Levites to ask him, "Who are you?"

"Then who are you?" they said; "tell us, so that we can give some answer to those who sent us. What have you to say for yourself?"

Now as people's expectations were roused and as everybody thought to himself about John, "Can he be the Christ,"

he frankly confessed ??he did not deny it, he frankly confessed, "I am not the Christ."

You can bear me out, that I said, 'I am not the Christ'; what I said was, 'I have been sent in advance of him.'

And as John was closing his career he said, 'What do you take me for? I am not He; no, he is coming after me, and I am not fit to untie the sandals on his feet!'

They asked him, "Then what are you? Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" "No," he answered.

Nay, I tell you Elijah has already come, but they have not recognized him ??they have worked their will on him. And the Son of man will suffer at their hands in the same way."

As for Elijah, I tell you he has come already, and they have done to him whatever they pleased ??as it is written of him."

He was not the Light; it was to bear testimony to the Light that he appeared.

This is he of whom it is written, Here I send my messenger before your face to prepare the way for you.

so they asked him, saying, "Then why are you baptizing people, if you are neither the Christ nor Elijah nor the Prophet?"
