'Inscription' in the Bible
“Now this is the inscription that was written out: ‘MENĒ, MENĒ, TEKĒL, UPHARSIN.’
For behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua; on one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will engrave an inscription on it,’ declares the Lord of hosts, ‘and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
And He *said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?”
They brought one. And He *said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” And they said to Him, “Caesar’s.”
The inscription of the charge against Him read, “THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
“Show Me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.”
Now there was also an inscription above Him, “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, “JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin and in Greek.
For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you.
