'Peace' in the Bible

Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Surely You have utterly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You will have peace’; whereas a sword touches the throat.”

“They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially,Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’But there is no peace.

“They heal the brokenness of the daughter of My people superficially,Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’But there is no peace.

We waited for peace, but no good came;For a time of healing, but behold, terror!

“Their tongue is a deadly arrow;It speaks deceit;With his mouth one speaks peace to his neighbor,But inwardly he sets an ambush for him.

“If you have run with footmen and they have tired you out,Then how can you compete with horses?If you fall down in a land of peace,How will you do in the thicket of the Jordan?

“On all the bare heights in the wildernessDestroyers have come,For a sword of the Lord is devouringFrom one end of the land even to the other;There is no peace for anyone.

But, “Ah, Lord God!” I said, “Look, the prophets are telling them, ‘You will not see the sword nor will you have famine, but I will give you lasting peace in this place.’”

Have You completely rejected Judah?Or have You loathed Zion?Why have You stricken us so that we are beyond healing?We waited for peace, but nothing good came;And for a time of healing, but behold, terror!

For thus says the Lord, “Do not enter a house of mourning, or go to lament or to console them; for I have withdrawn My peace from this people,” declares the Lord, “My lovingkindness and compassion.

“They keep saying to those who despise Me,‘The Lord has said, “You will have peace”’;And as for everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart,They say, ‘Calamity will not come upon you.’

The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet comes to pass, then that prophet will be known as one whom the Lord has truly sent.”

“For thus says the Lord,‘I have heard a sound of terror,Of dread, and there is no peace.

Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them; and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth.

It will be to Me a name of joy, praise and glory before all the nations of the earth which will hear of all the good that I do for them, and they will fear and tremble because of all the good and all the peace that I make for it.’

You will die in peace; and as spices were burned for your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so they will burn spices for you; and they will lament for you, “Alas, lord!”’ For I have spoken the word,” declares the Lord.
