'Portion' in the Bible
When all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them the people answered the king, saying,“What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse.Every man to your tents, O Israel; Now look after your own house, David.”So all Israel departed to their tents.
Although Ahaz took a portion out of the house of the Lord and out of the palace of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria, it did not help him.
He also appointed the king’s portion of his goods for the burnt offerings, namely, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths and for the new moons and for the fixed festivals, as it is written in the law of the Lord.
Also he commanded the people who lived in Jerusalem to give the portion due to the priests and the Levites, that they might devote themselves to the law of the Lord.
