'Roots' in the Bible
“His roots wrap around a rock pile,He grasps a house of stones.
“Though its roots grow old in the groundAnd its stump dies in the dry soil,
“His roots are dried below,And his branch is cut off above.
Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse,And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
“For he will be like a tree planted by the water,That extends its roots by a streamAnd will not fear when the heat comes;But its leaves will be green,And it will not be anxious in a year of droughtNor cease to yield fruit.
Then it sprouted and became a low, spreading vine with its branches turned toward him, but its roots remained under it. So it became a vine and yielded shoots and sent out branches.
“But there was another great eagle with great wings and much plumage; and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and sent out its branches toward him from the beds where it was planted, that he might water it.
Say, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers—so that all its sprouting leaves wither? And neither by great strength nor by many people can it be raised from its roots again.
‘So it was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches;For its roots extended to many waters.
“Yet leave the stump with its roots in the ground,But with a band of iron and bronze around itIn the new grass of the field;And let him be drenched with the dew of heaven,And let him share with the beasts in the grass of the earth.
In that the king saw an angelic watcher, a holy one, descending from heaven and saying, “Chop down the tree and destroy it; yet leave the stump with its roots in the ground, but with a band of iron and bronze around it in the new grass of the field, and let him be drenched with the dew of heaven, and let him share with the beasts of the field until seven periods of time pass over him,”
And in that it was commanded to leave the stump with the roots of the tree, your kingdom will be assured to you after you recognize that it is Heaven that rules.
While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering great boasts.
