'Ruthless' in the Bible
For strangers have risen against meAnd violent men have sought my life; They have not set God before them. Selah.
Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked (godless),From the grasp of the unrighteous and ruthless man.
O God, arrogant and insolent men have risen up against me;A band of violent men have sought my life,And they have not set You before them.
In this way I will punish the world for its evilAnd the wicked for their wickedness [their sin, their injustice, their wrongdoing];I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proudAnd will abase the arrogance of the tyrant.
A harsh vision has been shown to me;The treacherous one deals treacherously, and the destroyer destroys.Go up, Elam! Lay siege, Media! All the groaning [caused by Babylon’s ruthless oppressions] I [the Lord] have brought to an end.
Therefore a strong people will honor You;Cities of terrible and violent nations will fear You.
For You have been a stronghold for the helpless,A stronghold for the poor in his distress,A shelter from the storm, a shade from the heat; For the breath of tyrantsIs like a rainstorm against a wall.
Like heat in a dry land, You will subdue the noise of foreigners [rejoicing over their enemies];Like heat in the shadow of a cloud, the song of the tyrants is silenced.
But the multitude of your enemies [that assault you] will become like fine dust,And the multitude of the tyrants like the chaff which blows away; And it will happen in an instant, suddenly [that your enemy is destroyed].
“They seize bow and spear; They are cruel and inhuman and have no mercy.Their voice sounds like the roaring sea; They ride [in formation] on horses,Arrayed as a man for battleAgainst you, O Daughter of Zion (Jerusalem)!”
“So I will rescue you out of the hand of the wicked,And I will redeem you from the [grasping] palm of the terrible and ruthless [tyrant].”
