'Soldiers' in the Bible
When he had seized him, he put him in prison, handing him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him. Herod planned to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.
On that very night before Herod was going to bring him out for trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, while guards in front of the door were keeping watch over the prison.
At daybreak there was great consternation among the soldiers over what had become of Peter.
He immediately took soldiers and centurions and ran down to the crowd. When they saw the commanding officer and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.
When he came to the steps, Paul had to be carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob,
Then he summoned two of the centurions and said, "Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea along with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen by nine o'clock tonight,
So the soldiers, in accordance with their orders, took Paul and brought him to Antipatris during the night.
Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, "Unless these men stay with the ship, you cannot be saved."
Then the soldiers cut the ropes of the ship's boat and let it drift away.
Now the soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners so that none of them would escape by swimming away.
