'Swears' in the Bible

Or if a person swears thoughtlessly with his lips to do evil or to do good, in whatever matter a man may speak thoughtlessly with an oath, and it is hidden from him, and then he comes to know it, he will be guilty in one of these.

In whose eyes a reprobate is despised,But who honors those who fear the Lord;He swears to his own hurt and does not change;

But the king will rejoice in God;Everyone who swears by Him will glory,For the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.

“Because he who is blessed in the earthWill be blessed by the God of truth;And he who swears in the earthWill swear by the God of truth;Because the former troubles are forgotten,And because they are hidden from My sight!

Then he said to me, “This is the curse that is going forth over the face of the whole land; surely everyone who steals will be purged away according to the writing on one side, and everyone who swears will be purged away according to the writing on the other side.

I will make it go forth,” declares the Lord of hosts, “and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name; and it will spend the night within that house and consume it with its timber and stones.”

“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, that is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple is obligated.’

And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, that is nothing, but whoever swears by the offering on it, he is obligated.’

Therefore, whoever swears by the altar, swears both by the altar and by everything on it.

And whoever swears by the temple, swears both by the temple and by Him who dwells within it.

And whoever swears by heaven, swears both by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it.
