'Affliction' in the Bible

Though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of oppression, yet your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will [constantly] see your Teacher.

“Indeed, I have refined you, but not as silver;I have tested and chosen you in the furnace of affliction.

In all their distress He was distressed,And the angel of His presence saved them,In His love and in His compassion He redeemed them;And He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
