“O earth, do not cover my blood,And let there be no resting place for my cry.
“Behold, I cry, ‘Violence!’ but I get no answer;I shout for help, but there is no justice.
“From the city men groan,And the souls of the wounded cry out;Yet God does not pay attention to folly.
“Among the bushes they cry out;Under the nettles they are gathered together.
“I cry out to You for help, but You do not answer me;I stand up, and You turn Your attention against me.
“Yet does not one in a heap of ruins stretch out his hand,Or in his disaster therefore cry out for help?
“I go about mourning without comfort;I stand up in the assembly and cry out for help.
So that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him,And that He might hear the cry of the afflicted—
“Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out;They cry for help because of the arm of the mighty.
“There they cry out, but He does not answerBecause of the pride of evil men.
“Surely God will not listen to an empty cry,Nor will the Almighty regard it.
“But the godless in heart lay up anger;They do not cry for help when He binds them.
“Who prepares for the raven its nourishmentWhen its young cry to GodAnd wander about without food?
“As often as the trumpet sounds he says, ‘Aha!’And he scents the battle from afar,And the thunder of the captains and the war cry.
