'Devour' in the Bible
“They will devour your harvest and your food;They will devour your sons and your daughters;They will devour your flocks and your herds;They will devour your vines and your fig trees;They will demolish with the sword your fortified cities in which you trust.
From Dan is heard the snorting of his horses;At the sound of the neighing of his stallionsThe whole land quakes;For they come and devour the land and its fullness,The city and its inhabitants.
“Is My inheritance like a speckled bird of prey to Me?Are the birds of prey against her on every side?Go, gather all the beasts of the field,Bring them to devour!
I will appoint over them four kinds of doom,” declares the Lord: “the sword to slay, the dogs to drag off, and the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.
But if you do not listen to Me to keep the sabbath day holy by not carrying a load and coming in through the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in its gates and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem and not be quenched.”’”
