'Distress' in the Bible
For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!You have relieved me in my distress;Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
In my distress I called upon the Lord,And cried to my God for help;He heard my voice out of His temple,And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress;My eye is wasted away from grief, my soul and my body also.
Let those be ashamed and humiliated altogether who rejoice at my distress;Let those be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves over me.
But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength;Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning,For You have been my strongholdAnd a refuge in the day of my distress.
Which my lips utteredAnd my mouth spoke when I was in distress.
And do not hide Your face from Your servant,For I am in distress; answer me quickly.
Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress;Incline Your ear to me;In the day when I call answer me quickly.
Nevertheless He looked upon their distressWhen He heard their cry;
The cords of death encompassed meAnd the terrors of Sheol came upon me;I found distress and sorrow.
From my distress I called upon the Lord;The Lord answered me and set me in a large place.
