'Dust' in the Bible
Enter the rock and hide in the dustFrom the terror of the Lord and from the splendor of His majesty.
Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes stubbleAnd dry grass collapses into the flame,So their root will become like rot and their blossom blow away as dust;For they have rejected the law of the Lord of hostsAnd despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
The nations rumble on like the rumbling of many waters,But He will rebuke them and they will flee far away,And be chased like chaff in the mountains before the wind,Or like whirling dust before a gale.
The unassailable fortifications of your walls He will bring down,Lay low and cast to the ground, even to the dust.
“For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the unassailable city;He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust.
Your dead will live;Their corpses will rise.You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy,For your dew is as the dew of the dawn,And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.
Then you will be brought low;From the earth you will speak,And from the dust where you are prostrateYour words will come.Your voice will also be like that of a spirit from the ground,And your speech will whisper from the dust.
But the multitude of your enemies will become like fine dust,And the multitude of the ruthless ones like the chaff which blows away;And it will happen instantly, suddenly.
Wild oxen will also fall with themAnd young bulls with strong ones;Thus their land will be soaked with blood,And their dust become greasy with fat.
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand,And marked off the heavens by the span,And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure,And weighed the mountains in a balanceAnd the hills in a pair of scales?
Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket,And are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales;Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust.
“Who has aroused one from the eastWhom He calls in righteousness to His feet?He delivers up nations before himAnd subdues kings.He makes them like dust with his sword,As the wind-driven chaff with his bow.
“Come down and sit in the dust,O virgin daughter of Babylon;Sit on the ground without a throne,O daughter of the Chaldeans!For you shall no longer be called tender and delicate.
“Kings will be your guardians,And their princesses your nurses.They will bow down to you with their faces to the earthAnd lick the dust of your feet;And you will know that I am the Lord;Those who hopefully wait for Me will not be put to shame.
Shake yourself from the dust, rise up,O captive Jerusalem;Loose yourself from the chains around your neck,O captive daughter of Zion.
The wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will do no evil or harm in all My holy mountain,” says the Lord.
