'Pregnant' in the Bible
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by [the power of] the Holy Spirit.
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child and give birth to a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel”—which, when translated, means, “God with us.”
And woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
And woe to those women who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
Now after this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant, and for five months she secluded herself completely, saying,
Listen carefully: you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.
Woe to those women who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For great trouble and anguish will be on the land, and wrath and retribution on this people [Israel].
She was with child (the Messiah) and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth.
