'Sea' in the Bible
‘Do you not fear Me?’ declares the Lord.‘Do you not tremble in My presence?For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea,An eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it.Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail;Though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.
“They seize bow and spear;They are cruel and have no mercy;Their voice roars like the sea,And they ride on horses,Arrayed as a man for the battleAgainst you, O daughter of Zion!”
and all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon and the kings of the coastlands which are beyond the sea;
For thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the pillars, concerning the sea, concerning the stands and concerning the rest of the vessels that are left in this city,
Thus says the Lord,Who gives the sun for light by dayAnd the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night,Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar;The Lord of hosts is His name:
As the host of heaven cannot be counted and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.’”
“As I live,” declares the KingWhose name is the Lord of hosts,“Surely one shall come who looms up like Tabor among the mountains,Or like Carmel by the sea.
“More than the weeping for JazerI will weep for you, O vine of Sibmah!Your tendrils stretched across the sea,They reached to the sea of Jazer;Upon your summer fruits and your grape harvestThe destroyer has fallen.
The earth has quaked at the noise of their downfall. There is an outcry! The noise of it has been heard at the Red Sea.
Concerning Damascus.“Hamath and Arpad are put to shame,For they have heard bad news;They are disheartened.There is anxiety by the sea,It cannot be calmed.
“They seize their bow and javelin;They are cruel and have no mercy.Their voice roars like the sea;And they ride on horses,Marshalled like a man for the battleAgainst you, O daughter of Babylon.
Therefore thus says the Lord,“Behold, I am going to plead your caseAnd exact full vengeance for you;And I will dry up her seaAnd make her fountain dry.
“The sea has come up over Babylon;She has been engulfed with its tumultuous waves.
Now the bronze pillars which belonged to the house of the Lord and the stands and the bronze sea, which were in the house of the Lord, the Chaldeans broke in pieces and carried all their bronze to Babylon.
The two pillars, the one sea, and the twelve bronze bulls that were under the sea, and the stands, which King Solomon had made for the house of the Lord—the bronze of all these vessels was beyond weight.
