'Seas' in the Bible
God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.
God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
‘These you may eat, whatever is in the water: all that have fins and scales, those in the water, in the seas or in the rivers, you may eat.
But whatever is in the seas and in the rivers that does not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water, and among all the living creatures that are in the water, they are detestable things to you,
“They will call peoples to the mountain;There they will offer righteous sacrifices;For they will draw out the abundance of the seas,And the hidden treasures of the sand.”
“You alone are the Lord.You have made the heavens,The heaven of heavens with all their host,The earth and all that is on it,The seas and all that is in them.You give life to all of themAnd the heavenly host bows down before You.
“For then it would be heavier than the sand of the seas;Therefore my words have been rash.
The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
For He has founded it upon the seasAnd established it upon the rivers.
Who stills the roaring of the seas,The roaring of their waves,And the tumult of the peoples.
Let heaven and earth praise Him,The seas and everything that moves in them.
When He rained meat upon them like the dust,Even winged fowl like the sand of the seas,
Whatever the Lord pleases, He does,In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.
Alas, the uproar of many peoplesWho roar like the roaring of the seas,And the rumbling of nationsWho rush on like the rumbling of mighty waters!
“Their widows will be more numerous before MeThan the sand of the seas;I will bring against them, against the mother of a young man,A destroyer at noonday;I will suddenly bring down on herAnguish and dismay.
They will take up a lamentation over you and say to you,‘How you have perished, O inhabited one,From the seas, O renowned city,Which was mighty on the sea,She and her inhabitants,Who imposed her terrorOn all her inhabitants!
“Your borders are in the heart of the seas;Your builders have perfected your beauty.
The ships of Tarshish were the carriers for your merchandise.And you were filled and were very gloriousIn the heart of the seas.
“Your rowers have brought youInto great waters;The east wind has broken youIn the heart of the seas.
“Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise,Your sailors and your pilots,Your repairers of seams, your dealers in merchandiseAnd all your men of war who are in you,With all your company that is in your midst,Will fall into the heart of the seasOn the day of your overthrow.
‘When your wares went out from the seas,You satisfied many peoples;With the abundance of your wealth and your merchandiseYou enriched the kings of earth.
‘Now that you are broken by the seasIn the depths of the waters,Your merchandise and all your companyHave fallen in the midst of you.
“Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord God,“Because your heart is lifted upAnd you have said, ‘I am a god,I sit in the seat of godsIn the heart of the seas’;Yet you are a man and not God,Although you make your heart like the heart of God—
‘They will bring you down to the pit,And you will die the death of those who are slainIn the heart of the seas.
“Son of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him,‘You compared yourself to a young lion of the nations,Yet you are like the monster in the seas;And you burst forth in your riversAnd muddied the waters with your feetAnd fouled their rivers.’”
He will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain; yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.
“For You had cast me into the deep,Into the heart of the seas,And the current engulfed me.All Your breakers and billows passed over me.
But striking a reef where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained immovable, but the stern began to be broken up by the force of the waves.
