'Themselves' in the Bible
“For My people have committed two evils:They have forsaken Me,The fountain of living waters,To hew for themselves cisterns,Broken cisternsThat can hold no water.
And you will swear, ‘As the Lord lives,’In truth, in justice and in righteousness; Then the nations will bless themselves in Him,And in Him they will glory.”
Do they spite Me?” declares the Lord. “Is it not themselves they spite, to their own shame?”
“Everyone deceives his neighborAnd does not speak the truth,They have taught their tongue to speak lies; They weary themselves committing iniquity.
“They have sown wheat and have reaped thorns,They have strained themselves to no profit. But be ashamed of your harvestBecause of the fierce anger of the Lord.”
“They will take away their tents and their flocks; They will carry off for themselvesTheir tent curtains, all their goods and their camels,And they will call out to one another, ‘Terror on every side!’
They will ask for the way to Zion, turning their faces in its direction; they will come that they may join themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.
