'Wilderness' in the Bible

The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;The Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

“Behold, I would wander far away,I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah.

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly;My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

The pastures of the wilderness drip,And the hills gird themselves with rejoicing.

O God, when You went forth before Your people,When You marched through the wilderness, Selah.

You crushed the heads of Leviathan;You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.

He split the rocks in the wildernessAnd gave them abundant drink like the ocean depths.

Then they spoke against God;They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

How often they rebelled against Him in the wildernessAnd grieved Him in the desert!

But He led forth His own people like sheepAnd guided them in the wilderness like a flock;

Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,As in the day of Massah in the wilderness,

I resemble a pelican of the wilderness;I have become like an owl of the waste places.

Thus He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up,And He led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.

But craved intensely in the wilderness,And tempted God in the desert.

Therefore He swore to themThat He would cast them down in the wilderness,

They wandered in the wilderness in a desert region;They did not find a way to an inhabited city.

He changes rivers into a wildernessAnd springs of water into a thirsty ground;

He changes a wilderness into a pool of waterAnd a dry land into springs of water;

To Him who led His people through the wilderness,For His lovingkindness is everlasting;
