'Worthless' in the Bible

some worthless men have gone out from among you and have seduced the inhabitants of their city, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods’ (whom you have not known),

They gave him seventy pieces of silver from the house of Baal-berith with which Abimelech hired worthless and reckless fellows, and they followed him.

and worthless men gathered about him, scoundrels, who proved too strong for Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, when he was young and timid and could not hold his own against them.

Who says to a king, ‘Worthless one,’To nobles, ‘Wicked ones’;

“What more was there to do for My vineyard that I have not done in it?Why, when I expected it to produce good grapes did it produce worthless ones?

“Behold, all of them are false;Their works are worthless,Their molten images are wind and emptiness.

They are worthless, a work of mockery;In the time of their punishment they will perish.

The Lord called your name,“A green olive tree, beautiful in fruit and form”;With the noise of a great tumultHe has kindled fire on it,And its branches are worthless.

Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the waistband from the place where I had hidden it; and lo, the waistband was ruined, it was totally worthless.

This wicked people, who refuse to listen to My words, who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts and have gone after other gods to serve them and to bow down to them, let them be just like this waistband which is totally worthless.

Therefore, thus says the Lord,“If you return, then I will restore you—Before Me you will stand;And if you extract the precious from the worthless,You will become My spokesman.They for their part may turn to you,But as for you, you must not turn to them.

‘For My people have forgotten Me,They burn incense to worthless godsAnd they have stumbled from their ways,From the ancient paths,To walk in bypaths,Not on a highway,

They are worthless, a work of mockery;In the time of their punishment they will perish.

They speak mere words,With worthless oaths they make covenants;And judgment sprouts like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.

Is there iniquity in Gilead?Surely they are worthless.In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls,Yes, their altars are like the stone heapsBeside the furrows of the field.

“Woe to the worthless shepherdWho leaves the flock!A sword will be on his armAnd on his right eye!His arm will be totally witheredAnd his right eye will be blind.”
