The Golden Calf

⁹ The Lord also said to Moses: “I have seen this people, and they are indeed a stiff-necked people. ¹⁰ Now leave Me alone, so that My anger can burn against them and I can destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.” ¹¹ But Moses interceded with the Lord his God: “Lord, why does Your anger burn against Your people You brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a strong hand?

Deuteronomy 9:14

Leave Me alone, and I will destroy them and blot out their name under heaven. Then I will make you into a nation stronger and more numerous than they.’

I will strike them with a plague and destroy them. Then I will make you into a greater and mightier nation than they are.”

I was afraid of the fierce anger the Lord had directed against you, because He was about to destroy you. But again the Lord listened to me on that occasion.
