1 When Jesus had brought to a conclusion all that he had then had to say to the people, he entered Capernaum.
1 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

7 That was why I did not even venture to come to you myself; but speak, and let my manservant be cured.
7 for this reason I did not even consider myself worthy to come to You, but just (e)say the word, and my (f)servant will be healed.
7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.

8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
8 For I too am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under my command.(c) I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”
8 because I, too, am a man under authority and have soldiers under me. I say to one "Go' and he goes, to another "Come' and he comes, and to my servant "Do this' and he does it."
9 Jesus was surprised to hear these words from him; and, turning to the crowd which was following him, he said: "I tell you, nowhere in Israel have I met with such faith as this!"
9 Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled at him, and turned and said to the crowd that was following Him, “I say to you, (D)not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”

16 Every one was awe-struck and began praising God. "A great Prophet has arisen among us," they said; "and God has visited his people."

24 When John's messengers had left, Jesus, speaking to the crowds, began to say with reference to John:
24 When the messengers of John had left, He began to speak to the crowds about John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

25 "What did you go out into the Wilderness to look at? A reed waving in the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in rich clothing? Why, those who are accustomed to fine clothes and luxury live in royal palaces.
25 (r)But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft (s)clothing? Those who are splendidly clothed and live in luxury are found in royal palaces!
25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

27 This is the man about whom it is written, "See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.'
28 There is, I tell you, no one born of a woman who is greater than John; and yet the lowliest in the Kingdom of God is greater than he."
28 I say to you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet he who is (u)least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
28 I tell you, among those born of women no one is greater than John,(k) but the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
28 I tell you, no one has ever been born who is greater than John. Yet even the least important person in the kingdom of God is greater than he."
29 (All the people, when they heard this, and even the tax- gatherers, having accepted John's baptism, acknowledged the justice of God.
29 When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they (v)acknowledged (Q)God’s justice, (R)having been baptized with (S)the baptism of John.
29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

30 But the Pharisees and the Students of the Law, having rejected John's baptism, frustrated God's purpose in regard to them.)

31 "To what then," Jesus continued, "shall I compare the people of the present generation? What are they like?

32 They are like some little children who are sitting in the market-place and calling out to one another--'We have played the flute for you, but you have not danced; We have wailed, but you have not wept!'
32 They are like children who sit in the market place and call to one another, and they say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’

37 (W)And there was a woman in the city who was a (ab)sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume,
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
37 And a woman in the town who was a sinner found out that Jesus was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house.(AA) She brought an alabaster jar of fragrant oil
37 There was a woman who was a notorious sinner in that city. When she learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's home, she took an alabaster jar of perfume
38 And placed herself behind Jesus, near his feet, weeping. Then she began to make his feet wet with her tears, and she dried them with the hair of her head, repeatedly kissing his feet and anointing them with the perfume.
38 and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume.
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

39 When the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this, he said to himself: "Had this man been 'The Prophet,' he would have known who, and what sort of woman, this is who is touching him, and that she is an outcast."
39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were (X)a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a (ac)sinner.”
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching Him—she’s a sinner!”(AC)
39 Now the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this and told himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who is touching him and what kind of woman she is. She's a sinner!"
40 But, addressing him, Jesus said: "Simon, I have something to say to you." "Pray do so, Teacher," Simon answered; and Jesus began:
40 And Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he (ad)replied, “Say it, Teacher.”
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
40 Jesus replied to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.”“Teacher,” he said, “say it.”
40 Jesus told him, "Simon, I have something to ask you." "Teacher," he replied, "ask it."
41 "There were two people who were in debt to a money-lender; one owed fifty pounds, and the other five.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
41 "Two men were in debt to a moneylender. One owed him 500 denarii, and the other 50.
42 As they were unable to pay, he forgave them both. Which of them, do you think, will love him the more?"
42 When they (Z)were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?”
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
42 Since they could not pay it back,(AE) he graciously forgave them both. So, which of them will love him more?”
42 When they couldn't pay it back, he generously canceled the debts for both of them. Now which of them will love him more?"
43 "I suppose," answered Simon, "it will be the man to whom he forgave the greater debt." "You are right," said Jesus,
43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
43 Simon answered, “I suppose the one he forgave more.”“You have judged correctly,” He told him.
43 Simon answered, "I suppose the one who had the larger debt canceled." Jesus told him, "You have answered correctly."
44 And then, turning to the woman, he said to Simon: "Do you see this woman? I came into your house--you gave me no water for my feet, but she has made my feet wet with her tears and dried them with her hair.
44 Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you (AA)gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
44 Turning to the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet,(AF) but she, with her tears, has washed My feet and wiped them with her hair.
44 Then, turning to the woman, he told Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You didn't give me any water for my feet, but this woman has washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair.
45 You did not give me one kiss, but she, from the moment I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
45 You didn't give me a kiss, but this woman, from the moment I came in, has not stopped kissing my feet.
47 And for this, I tell you, her sins, many as they are, have been pardoned, because she has loved greatly; but one who has little pardoned him, loves but little."
47 For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
47 Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why(n) she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little.”
47 So I'm telling you that her sins, as many as they are, have been forgiven, and that's why she has shown such great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven loves little."
49 On this, those at table began to say to one another: "Who is this man who even pardons sins?"
49 Those who were reclining at the table with Him began to say (af)to themselves, “(AE)Who is this man who even forgives sins?”
