For God, when making a promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater by whom to swear, swore by Himself,

that, through two immutable facts, in which it is impossible that God should lie, we may have strong encouragement, who fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us;

For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him,

to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth of all (first, indeed, interpreted as "King of Righteousness," and then also "King of Salem"??hich is king of peace;

Who hath been made Priest, not according to a law of a carnal commandment, but according to the power of an endless life;

(for they, indeed, have been made priests without an oath; but He with an oath through Him Who said to Him, "The Lord swore, and will not repent, Thou art a Priest forever");

Who hath no necessity daily, as the high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people (for this He did once for all, when He offered up Himself);

for the law constitutes men high priests who have infirmity, but the word of the oath, which was after the law, constitutes the Son perfected forever.

Now as a main point to the things being spoken, we have such a High Priest, Who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in Heaven,

who, indeed, serve in the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses has been divinely warned, when about to make the tabernacle; for "See," saith He, "that you make all things according to the pattern which was showed you in the mount";

For, if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctifies to the purification of the flesh;

For we know Him Who said, To Me belongs vengeance; I will recompense," saith the Lord; and again, "The Lord will judge His people."

partly, indeed, when ye were made a spectacle both with reproaches and tribulations; and partly, when ye became partakers with those who were so used;

For those who say such things make it manifest that they are seeking their paternal home.

to whom it was said, "In Isaac shall your seed be called;"

who, through faith, subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions,

and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice those who heard entreated that no word more should be added to them;

See that ye refuse not Him Who speaketh; for, if those escaped not, when refusing him who warned them on earth, much more shall not we escape, who turn away from Him Who warneth us from Heaven;
