That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have touched, concerning the Word of life,

the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and testify to it, and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us

that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all.

If we say we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

My little children, I write this to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard.

I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.

Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

and every spirit which does not confess Jesus is not of God. This is the spirit of the Antichrist, of which you have heard that it was coming, and now it is in the world already.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world.

In this love is perfected among us, that we may have confidence for the Day of Judgment, because as he is so are we in this world.

And this commandment we have from him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
