for there will be sore misery then, such as never has been from the beginning of the world till now ??no and never shall be.

(for when that righteous man resided among them, by what he saw and heard his righteous soul was vexed day after day with their unlawful doings) ??9 then be sure the Lord knows how to rescue pious folk from trial, and how to keep the unrighteous under punishment till the day of doom,

This is how we may be sure we know him, by obeying his commands.

but whoever obeys his word, in him love to God is really complete. This is how we may be sure we are in him:

As you know he is just, be sure that everyone who practises righteousness is born of him.

Thus it is that we may be sure we belong to the truth and reassure ourselves

he who obeys his commands remains within him ??and He remains within him. And this is how we may be sure he remains within us, by means of the Spirit he has given us.

This is how we may be sure we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us a share in his own Spirit;

I have written in this way to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may be sure you have life eternal.
