For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all mankind, instructing us to say ?No? to ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age; looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works. Say these things and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no man despise you.

But sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with humility and fear: having a good conscience; so that when they speak evil against you, they may be put to shame who slander your good manner of life in Christ. For it is better, if it is God's will, that you suffer for doing well than for doing evil.
