He that passing by vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.


Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

And the Lord saith, Forasmuch as this people draw near with their mouth, and honour me with their lips, but their heart is removed far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught of men; therefore, behold, I will proceed to do marvellously with this people, to do marvellously, even with wonder, and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their intelligent ones shall be hid.


But we speak wisdom among the perfect; but wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who come to nought.

For the word of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but to us that are saved it is God's power. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and set aside the understanding of the understanding ones. Where is the wise? where scribe? where disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

Let no one deceive himself: if any one thinks himself to be wise among you in this world, let him become foolish, that he may be wise.
