Afflicted saints » Should avoid sin
"Indeed, does anyone say to God, 'I have endured [chastisement]; I will not act corruptly [again]; teach me yourself {what I cannot see}; if I have done wrong, I will not repeat [it]'?
Afflictions » Blessings in disguise
For our momentary light affliction is producing in us an eternal weight of glory {beyond all measure and proportion},
"Look, happy [is the] human being whom God reproves; and you must not despise the discipline of Shaddai,
But he knows {the way that I take}; he tests me--I shall come out like gold.
"Indeed, does anyone say to God, 'I have endured [chastisement]; I will not act corruptly [again];
Before I was afflicted, I was going astray, but now I heed your word.
Better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for [death is] the end of every person, and the living should take [it] to his heart.
and said, "I called {from my distress} to Yahweh, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried for help-- you heard my voice.
And I will bring the [remaining] third into the fire, and I will refine them like [one] refines silver, and I will test them like [one] tests gold. They will call my name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'They are my people,' and they will say, 'Yahweh [is] my God.'"
Now all discipline seems for the moment not to be joyful but painful, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness for those who are trained by it.
And I said to him, "My lord, you know." And he said to me, "These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation, and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
