They reward me evil for good, [to] the bereaving of my soul.

They also who render evil for good are adversaries to me, because I follow the thing that is good.


He who rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.

Jesus answered them, I have shown you many good works from my Father. Because of them, which work do ye stone me?

But it was thou, a man my equal, my companion, and my familiar friend. We took sweet counsel together. We walked in the house of God with the throng.


Thou have put my acquaintances far from me. Thou have made me an abomination to them. I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.


Unrighteous witnesses rise up, they ask me of things that I know not. They reward me evil for good, [to] the bereaving of my soul. But as for me, when they were sick my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into my own bosom. read more.
I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother. I bowed down mourning, as he who bewails his mother. But in my adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The wretches gathered themselves together against me, and I knew [it] not. They tore me, and ceased not. Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

He has put forth his hands against such as were at peace with him. He has profaned his covenant. His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.
