And it came to pass, on one of the days, as He was teaching the people in the temple, and proclaiming the Gospel, that there came upon Him the high priests and the scribes with the elders, and spake, saying to Him, "Tell us by what authority Thou art doing these things, or who gave Thee this authority?"
And the high-priests and Pharisees, having heard His parables, knew that He was speaking concerning them. And, while seeking to lay hold on Him, they feared the multitudes, since they were holding Him as a prophet.
And the scribes and the high priests sought to lay hands on Him in that very hour; and they feared the people; for they knew that He spake the parable against them.
The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning Him; and the high priests and the Pharisees sent officers to seize Him.
The high priests, therefore, and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What are we doing? because This Man is doing many signs.
Then the high priests and the elders of the people were gathered together into the court of the high priest who was called Caiaphas; and they consulted together that they might take Jesus by guile and kill Him. But they said, "Not during the feast, lest an uproar might arise among the people."
Now after two days was the passover, and the feast of unleavened bread; and the high priests and the scribes were seeking how, taking Him by guile, they might kill Him;
And the high priests and the whole Sanhedrin were seeking false witness against Jesus, that they might put Him to death;
And the high priests and all the Sanhedrin were seeking for testimony against Jesus, in order to put Him to death; and they were not finding it.
And, when morning came, all the high priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, so as to put Him to death;
Then one of the twelve, the one called Judas Iscariot, going to the high priests,

and, departing, he consulted with the high priests and captains, how he might deliver Him up to them.

Then Judas, who betrayed Him, seeing that He was condemned, repenting, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the high priests and the elders, saying, "I sinned, having betrayed innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? You may see to that." And, throwing the pieces of silver into the temple, he withdrew; and, going away, he hanged himself.read more.
And the high priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, "It is not lawful to cast them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood."
And, when it was day, the eldership of the people was gathered together, both high priests and scribes; and they led Him away into their Sanhedrin, saying,

But the high priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes, that they should ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

In like manner the high priests, mocking Him among themselves with the scribes, said, "He saved others; Himself He cannot save!

Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Thy own nation, and the high priests delivered Thee up to me: what didst Thou do?"
And on the morrow which, indeed, is the day after the Preparation, the high priests and the Pharisees were gathered together to Pilate, saying, Sir, we were reminded that that Deceiver said, while yet living, 'After three days I rise again;' order, therefore, that the sepulchre be made secure until the third day, lest haply His disciples, coming, should steal Him away, and say to the people, 'He was raised from the dead;' and the last error will be worse than the first."read more.
And Pilate said to them, "Ye have a guard; go your way, secure it, as ye know how." And, going, they made the sepulchre secure, sealing the stone, in connection with the guard.
And, as they were going, behold, some of the guard going into the city, reported to the high priests all that had happened. And, having gathered together with the elders, and having taken counsel, they gave a large sum of silver to the soldiers, saying, "Say ye that His disciples, coming by night, stole Him, while we were sleeping.read more.
And, if this be heard by the governor, we will persuade him, and make you devoid of care," And they, taking the silver, did as they were instructed. And this account was spread abroad among the Jews, until this day.
They, therefore, cried out, "Away with Him! away with Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate says to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The high priests answered, We have no king but Caesar!"
And, being released, they went to their own friends, and reported all that the high priests and the elders said to them.
Now, when both the captain of the temple and the high priests heard these words, they were thoroughly perplexed concerning them, what this might become.
and here he has authority from the high priests to bind all those calling on Thy name."
