They ponder not in their minds, for they have neither knowledge nor understanding, to think thus, "I have burnt one piece in the fire; I have baked bread with the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh withal, and eaten it: shall I now of the residue make an abomination, and fall down before a rotten piece of wood?"
"Thou son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a froward household: which have eyes to see, and yet see not; ears have they to hear, and yet hear they not. For they are an obstinate household.
Hypocrites, ye can skill of the fashion of the earth, and of the sky: but what is the cause, that ye cannot skill of this time?
Whereof we have many things to say which are hard to be uttered: because ye are dull of hearing.
For this people's hearts are waxed gross. And their ears were dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their hearts, and should turn, that I might heal them.

But strong meat belongeth to them that are perfect, which through custom have their wits exercised, to judge both good and evil also.
For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears were thick of hearing, and their eyes have they closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and should be converted, and I should heal them.'
They will not be learned nor understand, but walk on still in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
But they know not the thoughts of the LORD; they understand not his counsel, that shall gather them together as the sheaves in the barn.
Therefore speak I to them in similitudes: For though they see, they see not; and hearing, they hear not, neither understand.
"'For it is a nation that hath an unhappy forecast, and hath no understanding in them.
Our fathers regarded not thy wonders in Egypt, neither kept they thy great goodness in remembrance, but were disobedient at the sea, even at the reed sea.

"Nevertheless this shall come upon them because my people is become foolish, and hath utterly no understanding. They are the children of foolishness, and without any discretion. To do evil, they have wit enough: but to do well, they have no wisdom."
Why perceive ye not, then, that I spake not unto you of bread, when I said, 'Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?'"
But they wist not what that word meant, and it was hid from them that they understood it not. And they feared to ask him of that saying.
But they understood none of these things. And this saying was hid from them. And they perceived not the things which were spoken.
And he said unto them, "O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken.
Jesus said unto him, "Have I been so long time with you: and yet hast thou not known me? Philip, he that hath seen me, hath seen the father. And how sayest thou then, Show us the father?
Then said the Jews, "Forty six years was this temple a building: and wilt thou raise it up in three days?"
Nicodemus said unto him, "How can a man be born, when he is old? Can he enter into his mother's womb and be born again?"
The woman said unto him, "Sir, thou hast no thing to draw it withal, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that water of life?
He said unto them, "I have meat to eat, that ye know not of." Then said the disciples between themselves, "Hath any man brought him meat?"
Then said his disciples, "Lord, if he sleep, then shall he do well enough." Howbeit, Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of the natural sleep.
I am that living bread, which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever. And the bread that I will give, is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." And the Jews strove among themselves, saying, "How can this fellow give us his flesh to eat?"
