And LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.

Then the word of LORD came to Samuel, saying, I regret that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments. And Samuel was angry, and he cried out to LORD all night.

For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked. Thou have grown fat. Thou have grown thick. Thou have become sleek. Then he forsook God who made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation. They moved him to jealousy with strange [gods]. With abominations they provoked him to anger.

Ephraim has provoked to anger most bitterly. Therefore his blood shall be left upon him, and his reproach his LORD shall return to him.

Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, says LORD, him who offers in the high place, and him who burns incense to his gods. Therefore my heart sounds for Moab like pipes, and my heart sounds like pipes for the men of Kir-heres. Therefore the abundance that he has gotten is perished.

How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? [How] shall I cast thee off, Israel? How shall I make thee as Admah? [How] shall I set thee as Zeboiim? My heart is turned within me. My compassions are kindled together. I will not execute the fierceness of my anger. I will not return to destroy Ephraim. For I am God, and not man, the Holy One in the midst of thee, and I will not come in wrath.

Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do earnestly remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him. I will surely have mercy upon him, says LORD.

I have for a long time held my peace. I have been still, and refrained myself. [Now] I will cry out like a travailing woman. I will gasp and pant together.

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, these may forget, yet I will not forget thee.

For we know that the whole creation is groaning and travailing together until now.

For the eager expectation of the creation is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creation was made subject to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it in hope. Because the creation itself will also be freed from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.

And if children, also heirs, heirs indeed of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer jointly, so that we may also be glorified jointly.

And Jesus said to them, Ye will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and the immersion that I am immersed ye will be immersed.

Because to you it was granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him,

For ye were called for this. Because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, so that ye should follow his footsteps.
