Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist have been instituted by God.

Therefore one must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for the sake of conscience. First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.
