Then Shechem's father Hamor went to speak with Jacob about Dinah. Now Jacob's sons had come in from the field when they heard the news. They were offended and very angry because Shechem had disgraced Israel by sexually assaulting Jacob's daughter, a crime that should not be committed. But Hamor made this appeal to them: "My son Shechem is in love with your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.
Furthermore, he must not marry many wives lest his affections turn aside, and he must not accumulate much silver and gold.
If my heart has been enticed by a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbor's door,
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
You must have this tassel so that you may look at it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and obey them and so that you do not follow after your own heart and your own eyes that lead you to unfaithfulness.
O Lord God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, maintain the motives of your people and keep them devoted to you.
