for as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly: so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

from that time began Jesus to let his disciples know that he should go to Jerusalem, there suffer many indignities from the senators, chief priests, and scribes, be put to death, and be raised again the third day.

Some time after, while they were in Galilee, Jesus said to them, the son of man will be betrayed into the hands of men: they will kill him, but the third day he shall be raised again. at which they were exceeding sorry.

as they were going down the mountain, he order'd them not to tell any body what they had seen, till the son of man was raised from the dead:

When they were on the road to Jerusalem, Jesus led the way, and they followed behind full of apprehension and fear. then Jesus calling the twelve apostles to him again, acquainted them with what should befal him. now, said he, we are going to Jerusalem, where the son of man will be delivered up to the chief priests, and to the Scribes, who will condemn him to die, and deliver him to the Gentiles. they will treat him with ignominy, subject him to the lash, spit upon him, and at last put him to death. but on the third day he will rise again.

and Jesus said to them, this night you will all be staggered upon my account: for it is written, "I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered."

two persons of a glorious form were seen talking with him; they were Moses, and Elias, who discours'd about the exit, he was to make at Jerusalem;

Jesus answered them, saying, destroy this temple, and within three days I will raise it up. to this said the Jews, forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? but by the temple he meant his body.read more.
and when he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembred that expression of his: and they believed the scripture, and what Jesus had said.

I am the true pastor, I know my sheep, and my sheep know me, (as the father and I are known to one another:) and I lay down my life for them. other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring; they will hear my voice; and so there shall be but one fold, and one pastor.read more.

Within a little while ye shall not see me: but within a little while ye shall see me again, because I am going to the father. then said some of his disciples among themselves, what is the meaning of his saying, "within a little while ye shall not see me: but within a little while ye shall see me again, because I am going to the father?" for, said they, we cannot comprehend the meaning of that expression, "within a little while?"read more.
now Jesus perceiving that they had a mind to ask him, said to them, are you sollicitous about what I said, "within a little while ye shall not see me: but within a little while ye shall see me again?" verily, verily I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. a woman when she is in travail, is afflicted at the approach of her pains: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, the remembrance of her anguish, is lost in her joy, that a man is born into the world. so you are afflicted at present: but I will see you again, and then shall your hearts be affected with joy, and your joy shall no one wrest from you.
