and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

For we know, brethren beloved by God, that he has chosen you; for our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.

But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. He called you to this through our gospel, that you may share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and the grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
